Battlefield Play4Free Battlefield Play4Free is, as the name implies, a free-to-play multiplayer game in the Battlefield series. It is basically a revamped version of Battlefield 2 with the class system of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. The player can not change classes during a match but is stuck with the one he chooses during character creation: assault, recon, medic or engineer. With experience points earned during matches the player can unlock new abilities, e.g. throwing grenades, and equipment for his character like a defibrillator for medics.

The playable maps taken over from Battlefield 2 are Oman, Karkand and Sharqui but instead of World War II the game is set during a fictional conflict between Russia and the USA. While the graphics are essentially the same there are a few new optical effects implemented. Gone are the squad system and the commander mode from the original. The available game mode is Assault in which the teams (maximal 32 player altogether) need to conquer flag points - every flag results in points for the team. The team which first reaches a certain number wins - kills don't weight into this. Like in every Battlefield, the player can use various vehicles, tanks and aircraft.

This game can be played for free and supports itself with micro-transactions: the player can purchase so-called Battlefunds (also usable for Battlefield Heroes) with real money. In turn those can be reinvested into additional character slots, new weapons and optical character enhancements with no effect on gameplay. Alternatively the player can use credits earned during normal gameplay to get purchasable items - but then only for a limited time. [source:mobygames]
