Close Combat: The Longest Day is an enhanced remake of the critically acclaimed Close Combat: Invasion - Normandy by Atomic Games. In The Longest Day, you take command of either the Allied Troops attacking Hitler's Fortress Europe on D-Day or defend the beaches as the German Wehrmacht.

The Longest Day was the first game in the Close Combat series to simulate night battles which included the ability to launch flares to light up the dark. The game also expanded the units available which included French, British, Canadian, American, German, and Russian troops. [source:mobygames]
