Curse of Montezuma Cathie Jones, Emily Jones' granddaughter, continues the family tradition and takes on her grandmother's profession as an archaeologist. She finds the notes of her granny, with unfinished directions to the legendary fountain of youth. Cathie travels to the South American jungles, to complete her family quest for the ancient site.

Curse of Montezuma is a tile matching game, where the player must create matches of three or more jewelry pieces of the same type to make them break and disappear. The pieces are randomly distributed on a wire grid that has a different shape on each level. Pieces are selected with the mouse and swapped with adjacent ones, only changing position if a match is possible. When connected, the matching pieces start to fizzle with electrical arcs, then break. The vacant space is quickly filled with new pieces moving downwards the grid, rearranging the position of all the pieces above it.

The objective of each level is to destroy all the pieces with a jewel encrusted in the middle, to fill a meter at the bottom of the screen before time is over. Each match fills with blue mana a glass jar at the bottom-right. The jar has several circular slots for charging totem power-ups. After completing a level, the player receives a number of gold coins that can be used to purchase power-ups and upgrades in a shop between levels. They help in several different ways, exploding selected tiles, increasing the time available, giving more mana per match and aiding in other ways. Totem powers are used by selecting their slots in the jar, when it is filled with the required amount of mana, and clicking directly on the grid tiles.

Some mini-games appear between chapters, including jigsaw puzzles and one where slabs have to be dragged around to clear a path for a golden stone. [source:mobygames]
