Expedition nach Tikal Expedition nach Tikal is the conversion of a successful board game that won the German "Board game of the year 1999" award.

Up to four expedition are digging for Mayan artifacts in the Mesoamerican jungle. Each expedition is competing with the others to excavate the highest temple. In each turn, you can first add a new random field and then secure temples by placing your workers there (temples belong to who has the most manpower there), raise the temples or dig out some treasures. The higher your temples, the more "action points" you get, which are mainly used for moving. Movement is costly, so you may also consider to build camps from where you can reach important places more easily.

The game also features an "expert mode" where you place bids on new fields. Up to four human players can compete online. [source:mobygames]
