Galcon This is the first modern browser version of the 2006 Galcon game, after the original 1995 DOS version was ported between 1995 and 2000 in different renditions. The first was based on images, Perl and JavaScript (1998), followed by a JAVA applet version (1999) and a PHP / MySQL rendition (2000). This adaptation is the first based on the modern 2006 version of the game, initially released for Windows.

This version of the game can only be played through GarageGames' InstantAction website. Originally it required tokens to play (earned through wins or by paying for them), with a limited amount of free plays per day. Later those restrictions were removed and it was supported through advertisements. Each game starts with the player in command of a number of units on a planet in a large galaxy. The goal is to conquer other planets by sending out units in an amount that exceeds the number displayed on a planet. When the amount has been met, the planet is taken over (it changes into the player's colour) and the planet starts producing units as well. Opponents follow a similar course of action, meaning there soon in a clash to take over hostile planets and defend the home ones. Players can send out ships from different planets at once, or choose to relocate them to defend against incoming attacks. To win a game, all resistance needs to be defeated.

The game consists of a Practice mode, a Campaign mode with many different levels against one or multiple AI-controlled opponents, and a Quick Play mode to start a game based on a number of settings the player can define. Online multiplayer is supported for up to eight players, in free-for-all style or organized in teams. It also comes with in-game chat and a waiting lobby where the game is set up. [source:mobygames]
