Ground Zero: Genesis of a New World uses a post-apocalyptic setting which means that there are very few people in the world which are mostly violent gangs. The goal of Ground Zero: Genesis of a New World is to liberate the 20 cities of the area. The player recruits a big team consisting of mercenaries, doctors, technicians and hunters.

To survive the player has to maintain the life functions of his team members which requires several activities. Firstly everyone needs to drink and eat which is of course no trivial task in such an environment. To get the resources they need to restore the water and food sustenance of the cities. This is accomplished by using tools which are created with junk found in the wasteland.

Because there is no money these tools are also used as currency for buying better gear. Another thing the player needs to do is to the create itineraries between the cities and their defence from gangs. This means when the basic infrastructure is set, the player mostly travels between the cities looking for something to do. The game also uses a RPG system where the team members gain experience and improve their abilities.

The combat is completely in real-time and is more reminiscent of strategy games than RPGs. The player only has basic options like attack or moving orders. The only exceptions are traps which can be built and set by technicians. [source:mobygames]
