The Hall of the Fount of Artois Pierre Artois, the scion of an old and powerful family, has run afoul of one of the family's old and powerful enemies, the crazed enchanter Stefano Maningo, who has laid a terrible curse of petrification upon him. Knowing what hangs in the balance, the family has summoned the highest authority to their Artois Pragma estate -- which is where the player enters the equation.

This homebrew text adventure isn't just a treasure hunt -- the object-collection has a higher purpose as a collection of sacred objects necessary for a life-saving ritual to overturn Maningo's curse! And though the manor house itself is largely devoid of denizens of its own to give you room to do your work (barring Austin the cat and some jarring mythological creatures in the cellar), it takes on a personality of its own as you get to know it better, uncovering secret passages in pursuit of the magical Rammstein, a vessel of great power.

Though crafted with great care, the game is a deliberate throwback to text adventures of yore, and shares with them many features requiring players to strategise a bit, including carry limits and the curse's built-in time limit. And while we're partying like it's 1989, there's a maze in the basement that will periodically extinguish the player's light source just to keep things lively. [source:mobygames]
