Lord of the Shades In Lord of the Shades you are presented with a board like playfield, which is filled randomly with different colored blocks. Your starting block is the most left block in the hexagon looking playfield, while your opponent (the computer) starts at the most right block. Each player has a different color. There are six different colors in the game.

Now your job is to accumulate as much blocks as possible by selecting an adjacent block with a different color than yours, and also a different color than your opponent. Once the block is selected, all your blocks changing to the new color of the selected block. Your opponent does the same thing. If you master to surround a block (or blocks) completely with your color, this/those block(s) will automatically become your color.

The player with the highest score (the biggest amount of blocks) wins the game.

The game offers four different game modes: Fighter (regular play, like explained above), Spotter (same as Fighter, but there are empty fields inside the playfield, which can't be occupied), Islands (same as Spotter, but the empty fields grow over time), and Blinker (named after blinking fields (changing color), which grow, but those can be captured).

Finally, the game offers three difficulty settings, which influences the size of the board. [source:mobygames]
