My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Story of the Blanks is a fan-made game based on the animated television series by Hasbro. It follows the adventures of Applebloom as she prepares for a party and follows her friend Twilight Sparkle around. When Applebloom decides to go off on her own, the game takes a decidedly sinister turn, with Applebloom forced to flee the onslaught of the "Blanks"?shadow ponies that lack the "cutie marks" that grace the hindquarters of every pony in the My Little Pony world.

In the beginning of the game, Applebloom simply follows Twilight Sparkle around, using basic keyboard commands to interact with objects/characters and navigate the world. Once Twilight Sparkle becomes busy with removing trees blocking a road, the player is finally allowed to take independent action, following a mysterious pony deep into the woods to a village where the player must solve basic puzzles by collecting objects and delivering them to the correct place or character. Once Applebloom investigates a creepy cabin, the game play shifts once again, with the player forced to escape the village before Applebloom is touched by one of the Blanks. If this occurs, Applebloom is "dead" but the player immediately has the option of retrying that part of the game.

As the game is an unauthorized fan game, the name was eventually changed to the non-trademark-infringing Friendship is 8-bit: Story of the Blanks, though the characters and the plot remain intact. [source:mobygames]
