Paper Cakes Paper Cakes is a platformer with puzzle elements made by a team of students from the Utrecht School of the Art (HKU, The Netherlands) and the University of Southern California (USC, US). Players control Doodle, a magical drawing in the shape of a little man, who needs to be guided towards a cake to eat it. Each level is presented as a two-sided piece of paper where most of the objects consist of incomplete and non-connecting lines that act as platforms. There are also some ladders. Doodle can be guided around by drawing a line to a destination. He will move there when as long as there is solid ground for him to walk on.

To direct Doodle towards the cake the player can drag the corner of the paper (left or right) to fold it in a straight, horizontal movement. That way, seemingly loose lines can be connected, forming or extending a path for Doodle to progress. Because of this, only half of the level is visible at all times. Players can then move Doodle around or decide to flip the page when he has crossed the fold crease. To get to the cake, the paper usually needs to be refolded multiple times to reshape the level.

The game consists of 40 levels divided over four worlds. Each world is introduced through a tutorial and after five completed levels a new world is unlocked, with a higher difficulty. New worlds also open up situations that require a different approach. In the second one paper can be folded two times in a single direction before flipping it. The third one introduces moving enemies that can be trapped temporarily by folding the paper over them. The final world introduces holes that allow Doodle to travel directly to the other side of the page. There is no time pressure or threats that can kill Doodle. It is also impossible to become stuck - different approaches need to be tried before the cake can be reached. [source:mobygames]
