Pit Fiend From Microdeal's budget label comes a maze exploration/survival game with similarities to older arcade titles. As you start the game (after the title screen which plays a rendition of The Entertainer, the screen quickly flashes an overhead map of the five levels of a dungeon, after which you find yourself at the middle level.

You move your character in block increments through the dungeon, with the objective to find nine pieces of an ancient shield that are scattered throughout the five levels. You are working against time, since a gauge on the right side of the screen is running down, which can be interpreted as oxygen supply, stamina or a simple time limit. When the gauge is depleted, you lose one of your three lives. Another way to lose a life is to run into one of the blobby monsters that wander around in the depths. Fortunately, you are not unarmed. If you find yourself on the same horizontal level as a monster, you may fire your boomerang, which bounces back to you after hitting a monster or a wall. This is especially powerful in case the maze is filled with monsters, since the boomerang may very well take down several at once if they enter the right level at the right time. However, the boomerang can only be fired horizontally, not vertically.

The game offers the usual Dragon colour selections: Black and white, buff or green. [source:mobygames]
