The Polynomial: Space of the Music The Polynomial is a three dimensional space shooter with mathematically generated graphics whose animation depends on the music of the user. The player moves freely around visually intensive 3D spaces and has to shoot down the odd creatures that swarm through the galaxy. Flying around are also ghosts that the space monsters like to eat. They are friendly towards the player though and by flying through them the player can get repairs or speed boosts. The player can also pick up different power ups like faster bullets, autoaim and speed boost. The game consist of a number of different worlds each with different visuals and the player can also create his own worlds.

The aim of the game is simply to score as many points as possible. It can be played with different difficult settings (from none to insane) and the higher they are the more points can the player score. The scoring is based on continuously timed counts of the player's actions in the last 1, 5, 20, and 60 minutes of play. The player scores not only when defeating the enemies but also when meeting ghosts or collecting flowers and passing through wormholes. For players that only wants to explore the worlds the difficulty can be turned off and then there won't be any enemies.

The game has 38 levels each with its own graphical effects and four animators that are driven by the music. In addition to these the player can create his own levels directly in the game by editing the fractal artwork. The music of the game consists of a 50 minutes long soundtrack and it is also possible for the player to import his own music into the game which will then influence the animation of the game.
