Restaurant City Restaurant City is a simulation game on Facebook in which the player is tasked with managing a restaurant. The player can choose the interior and exterior decorations, the menu, and employees (from a list of their Facebook friends). Employees can be assigned to one of four jobs: chef, waiter, janitor, and bartender. The employees perform tasks such as cooking food, serving customers, clearing tables, picking trash off the floor, repairing broken toilets or arcade machines, and serving drinks.

The game keeps score via "gourmet points," which are primarily accumulated by serving food to customers. The player will level up based on their number of gourmet points, earning them special perks such as a larger restaurant, more employees, and new items to purchase. Each meal also earns the player money, which can be used to pay employees or purchase furniture, decorations, and food items. Food items are necessary for unlocking and leveling up dishes, which can then be chosen as menu items to serve to customers. Higher level dishes earn more gourmet points and some unlock special restaurant items at level 10, the maximum level for all dishes. Food items are gained by being bought in the market, traded with friends, grown in a garden outside of the restaurant, given out by friends using the in-game gifting system, or distributed as rewards by the game itself.

The game has experienced some changes since its inception. These include the acceptance of Playfish Cash, which allows players to use real money to pay for in-game items. The game also changed its shift system; staff was originally limited to 3 hour shifts (later changed to 4) that expired on their own, leaving the employees "passed out" on the floor; now the player can pay for a shift of a specific length (receiving bonus points when they return to the game within that period of time after the end of the shift).
