Runespell: Overture In 1046 AD, England is under a severe snowstorm which has blanketed the entire country. This blizzard is referred to as the "Grim Whyte". In this current setting, players take on the role of the Changeling who has just awoken with amnesia. Now it is time to go on a journey to figure out just who you are and what is your purpose.

During the game, players travel on a map going from location to location gaining quests to go on and sometimes engaging in battles. Battles are viewed in a similar way as the battles in the Puzzle Quest series are. During the battle, the main gameplay involves playing a game called Mythic Poker. The player's and the player's opponents cards are lined up in 7 different piles with the player and the opponent taking turns rearranging their cards. The goal of these battles is to form different poker hands in order to inflict damage on their opponent. The higher the poker hand formed, the more damage it will cause. Players have only 3 actions they can take per round before it is their opponent's turn. Sometimes in battle there will be a locked treasure box which can only be opened by forming the correct poker hand in a limited number of rounds.

Throughout their journey players will acquire both Powercards and allies. Powercards let the player cast runespells. Some Powercards can be equipped while others can only be used a few times before they run out of charges. Casting some Powercards will cost the player Rage Points. Rage Points are increased by either receiving or dealing damage to an opponent. Allies that join the player during their journey can also join in during a battle to add support and also cost Rage Points to use.

Inside villages, players can chat with the locals and can also barter with the local trader. At the trader, players can buy new powercards, allies, recharge their powercards, and sell off cards they no longer need. [source:mobygames]
