In The Three Musketeers: The Game, players take control of d'Artagnan on his quest to become a Musketeer. The game closely follows the plot of the original Three Musketeers novel.

This 17th century role playing game focuses on d'Artagnan's adventures with the famous three musketeers: Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. Cardinal Richelieu, the most powerful man in France, launches a plot to disgrace the queen and it's up to d'Artagnan and his three friends to save her honor. Later in the game, the beautiful but deadly Milady de Winter becomes the chief concern of the four comrades.

Dueling enemies, gathering loot, and firing muskets are central to the gameplay. Gaining experience points and new equipment are important, but probably less so than in typical RPGs. A "breadcrumb" system is used to guide the player to the next objective, preventing them from getting lost. In addition to the main story, there are optional side-quests and mini-games to play.
