Flashpoint Germany Flashpoint Germany is a turn based strategy game set at the end of the Cold War. The Soviet Union decides to invade Germany and initiates a new World War of NATO versus Warsaw Pact. You play the role of a General in 17 different scenarios. You can play as both the Soviets, Germans, Brits and Americans. You command regiments or brigades and have possibilities in electronic warfare, tactical doctrine, nuclear and chemical weapons, air strikes, artillery and smoke and mine fields. The game features accurate units and equipment from the late 1980s.

As a general you can give new orders to your units every thirty (ingame) minutes. Once your orders are placed and you give the clear you can only watch how your actions unfold until you can give the next batch of orders. Electronic warfare adds a unique element to the game. When you give too many orders, enemy intelligence will find out the location of your headquarters, which can result in an early defeat if they manage to bomb it. Stealth is required to get your units near the enemy because preliminary enemy bombardments can wipe out entire squads. Units have a high degree of autonomy, they will attack the enemies they encounter and fall back when spotted on enemy terrain.

The game is played in a top-down perspective where the units are represented by icons. It comes with an editor with which you can create your own scenarios. [source:mobygames]
