Kitten Sanctuary Kitten Sanctuary is a tile matching game with pet simulator features, where little kittens are imprisoned on a island by evil aliens and need to be rescued. The tiles are icons of resources like food, lumber and gold scattered through a grid. The player has to switch two adjacent or diagonally aligned tiles, to create matches of three or more of the same type. The objective of each level, or "trap" as the game calls them, is to release the energy stored in the gamefield by making matches over the red slots within a time limit. When all the energy is liberated, the level is complete and a small cat escapes from the alien prison to join others at one of four sanctuaries. Each match charges a blue idol, that can be used to destroy several tiles with a lightning bolt.

The sanctuary screen can be accessed between levels, where the player has to manage the satisfaction level of the felines by feeding them, keeping them warm and buying toys to keep their spirits up. Otherwise, they can get bored or angry and leave the place. Food and wood supplies can be collected directly in the matching sessions, while toys can be bought with the gold coins acquired in the levels. Random events, like earthquakes and birthdays, change the kittens disposition and temperament.

Some tiles have special characteristics: the box of supplies sits over several slots, and only disappears after its contents are matched. The locked tiles can't move or be swapped, blocking the movement of other pieces, and have to be matched and unlocked. Gifts give a special treat for the kittens.

Matches of four or more tiles create a power-up on the field, that can be activated with a direct click. The shuffle rearranges the surrounding tiles. The bomb explodes nearby tiles. The fireball can be shot horizontally, vertically or diagonally, and burns all the tiles in its path. Some power-ups appear outside the grid at the start of a new level. A bonus game occurs every few levels, where a flying saucer keeps dropping new tiles on the field, and the player has to eliminate them as fast as possible. [source:mobygames]
