Twisted Lands: Shadow Town Mark is on an oceanic expedition with his wife Angel, swimming and hunting for treasures around the perimeter where his small boat is anchored. Suddenly, they are attacked by unseen forces, with Mark being shot and plummeting to the sea. Miraculously, he survives and wakes up on a desert island, where he starts to carefully search the strange surroundings and ruined buildings for his spouse, finding ancient artifacts and devices on bizarre locations haunted by ghosts, while slowly uncovering pieces of information about the mysterious place.

Twisted Lands: Shadow Town is a hidden object game with some elements borrowed from traditional point-and-click adventure games. The player assumes the role of the protagonist, seeing the world from his perspective. The main objective is to gather a series of items and use them to solve all the puzzles found on most locations.

Some of the tools are only received after completing one of the hidden object challenges, taking place on separate screens where several items have to be found and clicked amongst the cluttering paraphernalia scattered around the scenery. The hint button is a mirror at the bottom-right corner, showing the position of one of the required objects, but breaking and taking some time to reform after each use.

After finishing the seek-and-find scene and finding all the objects from the list, one of the collected items is stored inside the inventory at the bottom, from where it can be dragged and dropped on interactive hotspots to perform an action or complete a pending task. The inventory slides upwards to reveal its contents, automatically receding down to show more of the background graphics.

Mini-games take place inside interactive windows at the center of the screen, where pieces and mechanisms have to be manipulated directly to solve puzzles. They can be optionally skipped after a few minutes. [source:mobygames]
