Warbands: Rise of Baron Muntu Warbands: Rise of Baron Muntu is a turn-based strategy game in the vein of Famicom Wars. The game uses a top-down view with simple cartoon graphics.

The game takes place in the fictional country of Wardonia where Baron Muntu tries seizes power and forces people into slavery. The player takes on the role of the Chief, a rebel fighter who is Wardonia's last hope. The campaign features 25 missions in which the player controls his rebel army. There are 20 different units to control ranging from soldiers to tanks, helicopters and battleships. Aside from the campaign the player can also play skirmish matches against the AI or against friends over the Internet or LAN.

The battlefields are divided into squares. The different units can move around and engage enemies. Movement range is based on the individual statistics as well as the terrain. This also influences the strategy, as forests provide cover against fire and mountains make units deal more damage. In a single turn the player can move all units, which are based on land, air or sea. Next to regular units such as infantry there are also tanks and medics that repair or heal fellow soldiers. During the enemy's turn most of the player's can also retaliate against attacks.

Some of the missions are resource-based. A steady income is provided through a headquarters, but more money can be gathered by capturing villages that grow into cities when they are held long enough. From the headquarters a single unit can be generated per turn and there is also an upkeep to pay. In those missions the player wins when all enemy units are defeated or when the enemy headquarters is captured. Some missions also feature an ally controlled by the computer. Units that destroy multiple enemies gradually gain ranks and become more valuable in combat through their experience, for instance by dealing more damage. The player can protect these through a medic, by pulling them back to the headquarters of by having them rest in a captured village. [source:mobygames]
