Escape from the Underworld Escape from the Underworld is a platformer with a large focus on exploration. It was made for the Indie Kombat challenge where two developers have one month to each create a game, and then the public weighs in to select a winner. Escape from the Underworld tells the story of a dark angel who is robbed from his powers and banished to the underworld after attacking people and fellow angels. Similar to a game like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and the metroidvania genre is adheres to, it starts with a large fight with all powers and the rest of the game is then about gaining what was lost.

The angel needs to find black orbs that act as health points and red ones that expand his power. Initially the angel is powerless but soon he finds a sword, gets to run much faster and finds back his wings. There is no linear path to follow but certain areas can only be accessed after having learnt a new skill. A mini-map overlay shows the visited locations and there are various save points. Enemies can be attacked or avoided and they respawn when an area is re-entered. [source:mobygames]
