Gendai Daisenryaku, which can be translated as Great Modern War Strategy, is the first game in the long-running Daisenryaku series.

As the title implies, this is a strategy war game. The abstract "Blue" and "Red" countries (controlled by the player and computer AI, respectively) are at war with each other. The gameplay is turn-based. The player first has to produce his army units using the power plants in his country. Then he moves these units over the top-down map. The goal is to conquer the capital city of the enemy. Naturally, the player's country also has cities, and it is necessary to protect them from enemy attacks.

The units include tanks, planes, and ships, as well as non-combat variety such as trucks that deliver supplies to the cities. When player-controlled and enemy units are positioned near each other on the map, a battle ensues. The outcome of the battle depends on the statistics of the corresponding units. [source:mobygames]
