Highway Pursuit is a freeware racing/action game featuring a third person perspective. You are driving down an endless road full of civilian and hostile vehicles, trying to maximize your score. The game ends when you run out of lives. A small amount of points is constantly awarded while driving, but to get anywhere (score-wise), you have to shoot enemies. Destroying several of them in quick succession will activate score multipliers, which is the key to very high scores. Accidentally destroying a civilian car starts a short penalty period, during which you cannot receive any points.

Your basic weapon is a mounted machine gun, but from time to time you will encounter so called "weapon vans" which provide you with temporary power ups like smoke screen or oil. It is also possible to push enemy cars off the road to destroy them. Among your villains, there are different types of cars with unique abilities and even a helicopter. At the same time, you have to watch out for the environment, as it's occasionally possible to fall into water or crash into trees. Weather effects like fog or ice keep the gameplay challenging.
