Izumo 3 Kakeru, the protagonist of the game, has lost his parents when he was a little boy. Now he is a teenager attending the famous private academy Izumo. He trains in martial arts and visits his sick sister in a hospital after school. So uneventful his life is, until one day something happens - and not for the first time in the Izumo Academy: some mysterious force turns the school into monster-infested dungeon. Kakeru must now save his friends from the monsters and find the source of evil.

Izumo 3 is very similar to both predecessors: there are long stretches of "visual novel" gameplay (looking at still pictures and reading text), but the bulk of the gameplay is still old-school Japanese RPG with turn-based battles. Unlike in the previous games, the battles in "Izumo 3" are not random. Enemies can be seen walking on the screen, and it is possible to avoid them. [source:mobygames]
