MapleStory is a F2P (free to play) 2D side-scrolling fantasy MMORPG set in Maple World. There are several different servers for different parts of the world to play on. You defeat monsters and complete quests alone or with up to 5 others in a group to improve your skills and increase your character's stats such as EXP points while acquiring the in-game currency Mesos. Starting out in the tutorial Maple Island, once you gather 150 mesos or a recommendation letter, you can leave to Victoria Island and its 8 cities. There is also the mainland of Ossyria with 7 different regions and another continent Masteria with several towns. World Tour continents also exist and are based on real life countries.

You can choose your character's face, hairstyle, color of skin and hair and your starting equipment. You can make up to three characters in each game world/server. Starting in a beginner job, you can eventually choose a job class: Bowman, Magician, Pirate, Thief, or Warrior. You can advance through 4 different class levels in your job. After level 15, you can raise or lower another character's Fame level (which allows to get quests and equipment) once per day but only monthly for same person. In completing quests, you obtain loot from monsters and sometimes have to complete obstacle courses or jump quests which require moving between platforms without getting knocked off. You can also purchase items from shops or other characters or trade for them. A Cash Shop also exists for microtransactions to buy items such as pets which pick up items dropped by monsters.

Players can form or join a guild and create extensions or emblems for it. You can chat easily among members and fight co-operatively. Players can also be married in the town of Amoria and receive wedding ring items and get to fight exclusive monsters in the dungeon there. There are solo and multiplayer mini-games available: Omok (tic-tac-toe), Match Cards (concentration), Rock Paper Scissors, and Fishing among others. Special Events are held by GMs (Game Masters) in which all players present at the event location participate and can win random prizes. [source:mobygames]
