Fuminori Sakisaka has a traffic accident which kills his parents and leaves him heavily injured. After an experimental treatment to save his life, he awakens in his hospital bed to find his perception of the world has changed: everything he sees becomes blood and guts, people are horrible creatures, everyday noises sound warped and horrific, and there is a constant and disgusting smell.

Whilst contemplating suicide in the middle of the night, a beautiful girl walks up to him, seemingly out of nowhere, and looking completely out of place against the walls of flesh and roaming monsters. She explains that she is looking for her father, a doctor at the hospital. Fuminori, amazed, begs to see her again and soon she becomes the only thing keeping him sane.
