Totally Tiny Arcade tells the story of Joystick Johnny and it is set inside an arcade hall. The arcade games are infected by a video virus and Johnny needs to hunt it down. The arcade game serves as a hub to play a lot of classic games in quick succession, moving from cabinet to cabinet. Although the inspiration from titles such as Pac-Man, Frogger, Space Invaders, Lunar Lander or Asteroids is obvious, all games are reworked with very different graphics, especially as Joystick Johnny is always the main character as he is warped into the game.
In a limited amount of time Johnny needs to move through three rows of four games. he has coins for 1, 2, 3 and 4 levels and needs to determine how to spend them to move on as quickly as possible. While playing there is an unlimited amount of lives, but each death deducts time from the general timer and when it expires, Johnny only has a single life left to try and complete all rows. While playing it is possible to collect treasures and B-O-N-U-S letters for extra points, along with perfect scores. At the end of the last row a timer bonus is provided for each additional second. Some levels are also infested with the video virus and present additional challenges. When the three rows have been completed, a mix of different games needs to be completed on a prototype cabinet, with additional difficulties when the virus interferes.
When a single arcade has been completed, two additional ones can be unlocked. There is also a mystery mix with random games and 1-dollar dash where the aim is to survive different games as long as possible with a single coin. [source:mobygames]
