3 Cards to Dead Time Jess is a medium whose psychic powers started to manifest after her 30th birthday. Since then, she is constantly haunted by visions and is able to communicate with the dead through her dreams. A shadow figure in one of her nightmares starts to give clues and directions to a haunted place. Jess decides to follow the lead, going to a Halloween convention in Maine to further explore her gifts and uncover details about her past.

Like its predecessor, 3 Cards to Dead Time is a hidden object game with a supernatural theme. The gameplay was much more simplified this time around, to make it more universally appealing and easier for non-native English readers. Instead of creating words, the objective this time is to find and click on all the items belonging to a category spelled at the bottom of the screen. For example, if the category is "rodent", the player has to click on any mice, rabbit or other related animal on the screen, even if it's a cartoon or toy.

Chapters have three tarot cards that can be played in any order, each with a separate hidden object screen with several categories. There is a hint button with a limited number of uses at the bottom-right, that shows the position of one of the required objects when activated. A red counter displays the number of wrong clicks allowed per scene, resetting the location after reaching zero.

Some screens have a mini-game puzzle that must be completed to finish the location. It can be accessed with the jigsaw puzzle piece at the bottom interface, where the player must drag and drop objects belonging to the people in photographs, reassemble a jigsaw puzzle made of vinyl record pieces, manipulate intricate mechanisms and complete other similar challenges.
