ABC Sports Monday Night Football simulates live-action football in the National Football League (NFL). Using the official 1996-97 rosters, all 30 of the NFL teams and all of their stadiums are included in the game.

There are two modes of play:Action Mode - become an actual player on the football field. Playable with a 2-button joystick or gamepad only, the Action Mode allows you to control both the ball carrier on offense and any member on the defensive squad.

Coach Mode - as the coach, call real-time plays as well as pick and choose the players. The game also features a Play Editor with which you can design your own plays and then execute them.

Play-by-play action is delivered by legendary sports commentators Al Michaels, Frank Gifford and Dan Dierdorf, acted out by the real people. Real photos of the team players are shown in all team rosters. All of the sound effects from a live football game are incorporated into the game as well as the official music.

Settings for the game are selected in the Control Booth. This is where you pick the home and visiting teams, switch the camera angles, change the weather conditions, save your games, and watch replays of saved games.

Two players can play simultaneously using LAN or modem-to-modem. League play, tournaments and updates to player statistics require an internet connection. Player stats are updated weekly on the developer's website. [source:mobygames]
