Dragonfarm is basically a mix between Pokémon with dragons and economic simulation. The player is the manager of a farm which breeds dragons. To do so, the player has to expand the farm to improve the infrastructure and the breeding process. In the city, the player has to resources and food for the dragons. Other possible actions are dragon trading or sabotage. As every round represents one month, it is important to plan ahead.

If these arrangements were successful shows during the dragon championships. Firstly, there is the dragon fight were the player moves the dragon, attacks, and defends by using the number pad. The second championship is the beauty competition which handling is a Simon Says' variant: pressing the right buttons to recreate patterns. The difficulty of these games depend on the dragon's stats. There are four game modes where the winning condition changes: Fighting (number of fights won), Beauty (number of beauty competitions won), Gold Rush (earned money after a certain number of rounds), and Regular.
