The adventurers Anna Lyze and Will Scout are hired by a British society to help on converting an ancient medieval castle in a museum. Will knocks over a crystal ball, summoning by accident the legendary wizard Merlin. The old sorcerer sends the two around the globe, in a quest to retrieve the lost pieces of Arthur's armor.

Hide & Secret 2: Cliffhanger Castle, like its predecessor, is a hidden object game with an archaeological theme. The main objective is to search screens representing locations around the world for the objects listed on a separate interface at the bottom. Sometimes the list names are replaced by the objects' silhouettes.

In some places, the screen is split in two similar images, and the player has to click on the differences between them. In other screens, the goal is to find several instances of the same object. At the end of each chapter, there is a special scenario were the characters are in danger and the player has a limited amount of time to complete the level. For example, in the Egyptian pyramid they fall inside a flooding chamber, and the player must find all the list items before the water fills the screen.

After too many wrong clicks in succession, Merlin appears obscuring the screen with a pink haze and disabling the cursor for a few seconds. Usually, there are two hints available per level.
