Jekyll & Hyde A mysterious epidemic ravages the slums of London in 1894. Only Children are spared by the deadly plague. Young Dr. Jekyll searching for the cure, develops a potion and applies it in self experiment. The outcome shows an unexpected side-effect. Besides defeating the epidemic the potion transforms Jekyll into his dark alter ego Mr. Hyde.

By accident Dr. Jekyll trips over an ancient tunnel system under the city that leads him deeper into the underworld of London. During his research he discovers the sinister plot of a mysterious sect. If that was not enough his dark side is growing stronger, gaining more and more control of Dr. Jekyll's body.

It is a classical adventure game with a few action components and a quick item system copied from RPGs. So there are the typical item or inventory based puzzles as well as machine riddles plus Action-Adventure like parts. Those include jumping, climbing, crawling and evading various traps while discovering labyrinth like underworld levels.

A special kind of machine riddle is the mobile laboratory Jekyll is carrying along. To get on at certain points in the game you have to mix and use additional potions, according to vague recipes found on the way. Sometimes you can only continue by morphing into Mr. Hyde. That transformation can only be achieved in certain locations by applying the prime potion but sometimes it happens automatically too.

The game comprises 6 chapters containing up to 7 sections each. While the sections' beginnings are marked by auto-save points, there are lots or reset points too. So meeting a premature death doesn't hurt to bad, although there is no option to save the progress manually. Jekyll & Hyde features real time 3D graphics with varying camera perspectives during the game. Depending on the location the camera follows the character's back, moves on a fixed path, or pivots on a specific point. In some locations the perspective changes occur quite often, especially when the fixed variants are active. Between the chapters movies in comic style advance the story. [source:mobygames]
