Realms Online is a massively-multiplayer-online-role-playing-game (MMORPG) which allows players to join 1 of 3 factions or realms. The realms are engaged in constant warfare, producing Realm v Realm (RvR) action. Players can enter into the RvR warzone at any time but the developers recommend that you do not do so until at least about level 30. While there are many monsters to kill with which to level your character, the game is dominated by player made content comprised of this RVR war. Killing other players also gives you experience points.

Players from each realm all can choose from the identical assortment of 6 classes, covering barbarian, Knight, Warlock, Conjurer, Hunter and Marksman. These are basically Warriors, Mages and Archers. Each character can choose a variety of spells or abilities to assist their combat. Spells include effects like invisibility, fireball, "timestop", stunning blows, barbarian might and boost to a knight's defensive capabilities.

The plot of the game is about how the realms came to be at war and the player can complete quests to learn about the plot. Completing quests also provides experience points. The game lets you level up to level 60.

The game is free-to-play and the products sold in the item mall do not significantly affect combat abilities. However, it may be worthwhile though not essential, to purchase one of many mounts which allows you to travel slightly faster. All mounts travel at the same speed.
